Module Objectives

Using the Module

This module is most appropriate if you have Word 2003(XP).

This module has been designed to demonstrate a potential approach to assist you in learning new functionality in relation to software applications.

This module looks at performing a mail merge in Microsoft Word 2003 (XP).

You will find, within the module, general information on using the Mail Merge feature and specific information on how to merge within Word, how to merge with an external data source (Excel) and how to create labels from data in Excel or from a new list in Word.

If you have not used Mail Merge before, you should find this module contains a lot of useful information. If you have used mail merge in the past or in a previous version of Word, you may find this a useful refresher.

The same learning approach could potentially be applied to any area of functionality within the Microsoft product range.

Your feedback in relation to this module is essential. This will enable us to evaluate the potential merit of creating additional modules within this area.

  • A prompt will be displayed asking if you want to Run or Save the file. Select the Run option. A further prompt may be displayed. Select the Run option again.

  • An On Top Helper will then be loaded which is designed to sit on top of the live Word software application installed on your system.

  • Links will be provided, at the bottom of the Helper window. Click on the links to access further information and/or simulations.

  • The simulations are designed to show you exactly what to do within Word. When running a simulation, you can either minimise the Helper window, on to the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, or move the Helper window out of the way. The option to do this may be limited by your screen resolution.
